Business & Technology

The Business and Technology major is only offered at to students who attend the Stamford and Waterbury Tri-Campuses. The purpose of this program is to provide students with a degree in business which focuses on the applications involved with information technology. The major provides students with the knowledge in information technology necessary to be prepared for areas such as finance, financial markets, and interactive marketing. The program was designed to prepare future business leaders for the constant business and technological challenges of today's marketplace. In taking courses involving database management, programming, communications, and internet technologies, students receive a solid background in order to be successful in the field.

Nature of Work

The nature of the business and technology major is to combine a general business education with a special emphasis on the application of technology to modern-day business problems. The goal is to have students engaged in the concepts of social responsibility and ethical business practice while encouraging the use of quantitative, technical, and theoretical approaches necessary for problem solving in the complex milieu of today's global business environment.

Useful Skills

Through majoring in business and technology, students will be provided with the fundamental knowledge of technology and quality management; evaluating, planning, coordinating, and controlling skills, as well as the ability to assess the use of human, legal, and technological factors for implementing successful business processes.

Getting Experience

Completing internships in a variety of business fields, including manufacturing, transportation, banking, hospitality, communications, health care, retailing, and government is the best way to gain experience in the field.

There is certainly a broad range of career opportunities. Every company needs effective business and technology managers, but more specific needs are to be met as well. Consulting firms need members and leaders of project consulting teams. Global corporations need managers with knowledge of international operations and sales. Manufacturing industries need floor managers with expertise in production and technology management. Also, with the continuing advancement in technology, having a solid background in the field is beneficial for any type of company.
