The UConn Center for Career Development is committed to guiding students to gain experience in competencies (skills and behaviors) that contribute to Becoming Career Ready.
The Becoming Career Ready Competencies
From our long-standing relationships with employer partners, we know you value the critical skills and behaviors necessary for success in the workplace. The UConn Center of Career Development is guided by the National Association of Colleges (NACE) Career Readiness Competencies developed in a large-scale nationwide study with employers from a range of industries. The recent addition of behavioral examples brings these definitions to life for students and faculty who seek to understand and integrate these skills and behaviors into classroom discussions and assignments.
How our UConn Community is Becoming Career Ready (students, faculty, and staff)
The UConn Center for Career Development team works with multiple groups including faculty, academic advisors, on-campus student employment supervisors and student affairs to increase student awareness about the NACE competencies. Our Career Consultant team guides students in ways to build these competencies during their time at UConn through academic studies, part time work, internships, research, extracurriculars and more. We, The Career Center staff, find that first-hand employer feedback is so helpful to bring competencies to life for students, as such we, invite employers to participate in career development programming around the competencies.
