Gina Lin, a seventh-semester business management major, is no stranger to success. This past summer Gina landed an impressive internship with The Hartford, a big-name player in the insurance industry. She held the title of Operations Leadership Development Program intern and worked as a process analyst, examining different department financials to save the company money.
With independent and team-oriented components to the internship, Gina’s supervisors expected excellence in individual and group performance; and every time she faced a challenge she delivered. One of her greatest achievements came when the company adopted an initiative that she and her coworkers created to improve the job role for full-time employees as company-wide protocol. It is clear that The Hartford recognized Gina’s determination and skill, offering her a full-time position upon graduation.
Gina credits CCD resources and her networking strategies as the tools she used to seize this opportunity. “I actually found the listing on HuskyCareerLink,” said Gina. “But I didn’t stop there. Before I even applied, I talked to alumni and current students that The Hartford selected. Then I made my move.”
If this exemplar of student success could grant one piece of advice to other students, it would be to expand professional and social networks by getting involved with several school clubs, organizations and internships. Surely the sky is the limit for this bright UConn star!
