While it is extremely important to answer questions fully and present yourself professionally during the interview, the interview does not end when you leave the office. An extra step that many people do not take is sending a thank you note to your interviewer. A short, but sincere thank you note is your last opportunity to make a good impression on the interviewer and also allows you to stand out among other applicants that interviewed for the position.
To write a professional thank you note after the interview you should always make sure to get the email address of your interviewer after the interview ends. Just ask if they have a business card which they probably will have on them. If not, ask if you can have their email address. You should write the thank you note within 24 hours and make sure to thank your interviewer for taking the time to interview you for the position. It is also a good idea to mention something that the interviewer told you about the position, maybe from one of the questions that you asked at the end of the interview. This shows the interviewer that you were listening to their answer. You should also emphasize again that you are interested in the position and believe you would excel in this role. End the email by saying that you hope to hear from them soon and sign it with a professional signature such as “Best regards” or “Sincerely”.
