CLAS Students: Top 5 Ways to Prepare for the Fall Career Fairs!

Each fall, the Center for Career Development (CCD) hosts two career fairs: the All-University Career Fair and the STEM Career Fair. If you are a CLAS student, you may have heard in the past that the career fairs are only for business and engineering students or that there really aren’t any opportunities for students pursuing CLAS majors. In fact, both career fairs are open to all students, regardless of class year and major. The employers in attendance are looking for enthusiastic, well-rounded students who are able to showcase the transferable skills they have learned in school and how those may apply to the positions they are hiring for. So, make sure the dates of these upcoming fairs are on your calendar:

All-University Career Fair | Tuesday, September 25 | 11am-3pm | Gampel Pavilion

STEM Career Fair | Wednesday, September 26 | 11am-3pm | Gampel Pavilion

Each day next week, the CCD will be sharing one tip for preparing for the fair each day via Facebook. Be sure you are following the UConn Center for Career Development on Facebook to get these updates! But just in case you have some time this week and would like to get started, we included a preview of our 5 tips below:

Day 1: Set Some Goals

Did you know you can attend the career fairs even if you’re not looking for a job or internship? You can come to expand your network, do some career exploration, or even just get a feel for what a career fair is like. Learn why you should be going to Career Fairs.

Day 2: Complete Your HuskyCareerLink Profile

This fall, HuskyCareerLink got a makeover. In addition to being able to easily apply for jobs or internships after the fairs, completing your new profile will allow you to showcase your skills and experiences to the hundreds of employers using the platform. You can also see a full list of employers attending the fairs under the “Events” tab.

Day 3: Attend 'Navigating the Career Fair as a CLAS Major'

Hear from Target & Cigna recruiters, current CLAS students, and career consultants about how to leverage your CLAS background during the fairs. Check out the CCD event calendar for more details!

Day 4: Put Your Best Foot Forward

Stop by the CCD to have your resume or LinkedIn profile critiqued to make sure your information is fully up to date or to get advice on how to navigate the fairs based on your goals. Schedule an appointment through HuskyCareerLink.

Day 5: Create a Game Plan

The fairs are only a few days away! Be sure to finalize your prioritized list of employers, print copies of your updated resume, choose your outfit, and outline your plan for the day. Don’t forget to stop by the CCD table at the fairs for any last minute questions or preparation.
