5 Reasons to Schedule a One-on-One Career Coaching Appointment at the Center for Career Development

Career Coaching appointments are one-on-one sessions for students that help to bridge the gap between where you are and where you want to be, through a goal and action-oriented process. Why get started now? It is never too early or late to start planning the next steps in your career, whether you are looking for internships, Co-ops, full-time jobs, or even graduate school. The Center for Career Development offers these versatile appointments where students can discuss academic and career-related plans; empowering students to make decisions that help move them forward.

Here are 5 reasons why you should schedule a One-on-One Career Coaching Appointment at the Center for Career Development:

  1. Each industry has nuances

Contrary to popular belief, when it comes to career exploration there is no “one size fits all” approach! Each industry has various nuances that require adjustments for. While researching online is a great place to start career exploration, it can be limited. Fortunately, all of our Career Coaches are well informed on all industries and the various approaches necessary for career exploration.

  1. Career Coaches have insight on current industry trends

Part of the Career Coaches’ role is to research and stay up-to-date on emerging industry trends. This can include but is not limited to, evolving interviewing techniques and occupational practices within each industry. Additionally, Career Coaches stay well connected to recruiters and UConn alumni in all industries, in order to help connect students to career opportunities.

  1. Career Coaching appointments are versatile to fit the student’s needs

At the Center for Career Development, we adjust our appointments to fit the student’s needs.

For this reason, we offer students:

  • Career Coaching Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with some evening hours
  • Career Coaching appointments that can be conducted in person, via phone, or via Skype
  • Career Coaching is available throughout each student’s time at UConn and up to three years after graduation

More so, Career Coaching appointments can cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Choosing a Major
  • Exploring Career Options
  • Résumé Critique
  • Cover Letter Review
  • Practice Interview
  • Internship, Co-op, & Job Search
  • Graduate School Preparation
  • LinkedIn Consultation
  1. In-person appointments allow for real-time engagement

Unlike researching online, a Career Coaching appointment allows for students to interact with coaches in person. Rather than being talked at, Career Coaching allows students to engage and talk with coaches. This enables students to ask questions, and get real-time clarification on all of their career exploration concerns. Career Coaches are a neutral third party, who are there to help guide students on a career path according to their individual interests and needs.

  1. There is “somebody here for everybody”

All our career coaches have diverse backgrounds and personalities. Each coach offers a unique approach and perspective on career exploration, which allows for different insights on career exploration. At the Center for Career Development, there is “somebody here for everybody”!
