Major & Career Exploration Event

The Center for Career Development and ACES are proud to co-sponsor:

TME Mentor & Alumni Panel on Major & Career Exploration
Thursday, March 5, 2020
7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Storrs Campus, McHugh Hall, room 102

The Major Experience or TME is a joint partnership between the Center for Career Development and ACES to facilitate major exploration among all students, whether you are completely undecided, comfortably declared, or somewhere in between. This panel will feature TME mentors and alumni to talk about their experience exploring majors and career paths and how major to career is not always a linear path. Following the panel, attendees will have the opportunity to network with the panelists and additional TME mentors.

Below are some tips on engaging with the panelists:

  1. Before you attend the event think of what you want to get out of it, whether that be learning more about a major or career path or networking with TME mentors and alumni. It is important first to recognize what you want, so you can properly prepare and have a clearer idea of what you want to learn.
  2. During the panel event, if something someone says interests you, make sure to ask them afterward. You are encouraged to ask questions during the panel, but if you feel more comfortable asking later for a one-on-one response you will have the time and freedom to do so. The panelists will be discussing the experiences they had and the decisions they made which drove them to choose their major and/or career field.
  3. Ask questions that help you reach the goal you set out to accomplish from the event, whether that be deciding on a major or exploring career options. If major selection is your goal, ask a TME mentor or alum how they decided on their major and what they enjoy about it. If the position an alum panelist holds interests you, ask them about it. This informational interview supplement is a helpful guide with sample questions you might consider asking.
