What is UConn BUILD?

Do you have a desire to solve real-world challenges as a college student? Are you someone with creative ideas and nowhere to apply them? The UConn BUILD program from the Connecticut Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation offers a month-and-a-half-long program where you can tackle real-world, current campus problems on a team.

You can apply to work with one of four teams. The four teams you get to choose from are 1) First Year Experience, 2) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, 3) Curriculum and Instruction, and 4) Career Development. Here are the goals of each team:

  1. First Year Experience – to lean into exploration and map talents with passions to generate individual success for first year students (beyond the GPA)
  2. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion – to create affinity-based innovation spaces and build communities and connections across regional campuses
  3. Curriculum and Instruction – to better understand modalities and preferences of instruction for both professors and students, specifically focusing on distance learning
  4. Career Development – to generate ideas surrounding the expansion of staff capabilities to advise students on career planning

To apply, you must submit your resume and a creative deliverable describing your ideas for the challenges and how you would add to the team. Before submitting your resume, schedule a resume critique here at the Center for Career Development! You can make an appointment via Handshake (click “Career Center” at the top right). Though applications are closed for the semester, you can find more information for the next round here
