What Makes Digital Media and Design at UConn Unique?

Digitial Media and Design or DMD is where innovation meets creativity. But what really is DMD experience? In this program students focus on the creation and study of art and design. The core of the major is the same as a Bachelor of Fine Arts but the rest of the major, 65%, is focused on digital media and design. The DMD is considered a liberal arts degree and gives students the ability to supplement the degree with another discipline through a dual degree or a minor.

The DMD program also prides itself on diversity. To deliver on the promise of diversity, the DMD program has a multitude of professors from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. DMD professors fulfill all the classroom needs while furthering creativity and value. A diversity committee meets once a month to discuss DE&I-related issues. DMD wants to supportitsr students as creatives, professionals, and overall individuals.

Another focus of DMD is the technological aspect of the program. DMD aims to create future leaders in design through educating students on the innovations in the field and industry-leading concepts and technologies. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, experienced professionals, leading edge hardware, and software. This all contributes to students being prepared for the new digital world. There is an overwhelming commitment to experiential learning that has translated to 75-85% employment rate in the student’s field after graduation.

DMD offers seven different career paths. These are 3D animation, motion design & animation, game design, web / interactive media design, digital media business strategies, film/video production, and digital culture.
