How to Perfect your Résumé

Are you a student looking to find a career and make a BILLION DOLLARS? The first step is to have a standout and phenomenal résumé. However, when most résumés are only reviewed by employers for under 30 seconds, creating a résumé can feel like a daunting task.  You are in luck, however; here at the Center for Career Readiness and Life Skills, we have a plethora of resources to ensure your résumé displays the best of you as succinctly as possible

If you do not already have a résumé, that is okay! On our website (career.uconn.edu), on the “write a résumé” tab, you can find templates to use to start your résumé, as well as articles and videos that offer extra tips and tricks on getting started.

Now that you have your base résumé, the next step is getting it on your employer’s desk. One way that employers filter qualified candidates from a pool of applicants is through Applicant Tracking Systems. The Center has recently established a partnership with Quinncia, which is a platform that uses AI to review and critique your résumé in relation to how successful it will be moving through these systems. All you must do is upload your current résumé, and Quinncia will score it and offer improvements all within 2 minutes. Thanks to our partnership, current UConn students have free access to the service – make sure to take advantage!

Once you have finished with your Quinncia critique, if you are looking to specialize your résumé for a specific job opportunity, feel free to schedule a career coaching appointment! Our career coaches can help target your skillsets in your résumé to match what it is your dream employer is searching for.
