Three UConn business students have secured roles at top companies like NBC Universal, ABC News, and Nickelodeon, utilizing their business skills and entrepreneurial mindsets to help them excel in these creative industries.
Emily Laput (’26), landed an internship at NBC Universal after applying to over 200 positions, leveraging her high school experience running a marketing and consulting firm. Her internship included promoting “Despicable Me 4” and working on employee engagement, tasks she found deeply rewarding.
Peter Spinelli ’24 is working as a production intern at ABC News, where he helps recruit on-air talent and supports production efforts, inspired by his desire to engage Gen Z with news.
Similarly, Emilia Kwasniak ’24, a self-described “theater kid” who grew up loving Victorious, now works at Nickelodeon as a media planning coordinator. She credits a career development course for helping her secure the position through an informational interview with a Nickelodeon employee.
UConn’s proximity to New York City provides students with valuable networking opportunities and access to prestigious internships. Faculty members like Professor Sami Ghaddar and Kelly Kennedy highlight that creative industries are seeking adaptable, strategic business students who can thrive in fast-paced environments.
