Susan Hyde-Wick

Susan (she/her/hers) was appointed as a Career Consultant at UConn’s Waterbury campus in 2006 where she created a full-service career office.  Drawing on her background in career counseling and programming, she develops relationships with students and employers, and collaborates with faculty and staff to help students reach their goals. She is a Connecticut Licensed Professional Counselor and a National Certified Counselor.

Susan meets one-on-one with students and alumni help them decide on a major, learn about careers, write a resume, and secure an internship or job. Working with student groups, offices and departments both at the Waterbury and Storrs campuses, she provides career resources for students to help them decide on a career path and manages campus recruiting and community organization fairs.  She works with faculty by presenting programs in classes, facilitating alumni career panels and developing internship contacts.  Susan is an instructor in the First-Year Experience (FYE) program.

Susan also works as the campus liaison to the Office of Experiential Global Learning (EGL), has traveled overseas with UConn students, and meets individually with those who plan to intern and study abroad. She has facilitated programs where returning students shared their life-changing stories with attendees and their parents.

Prior to her appointment at UConn, she was employed at Quinnipiac University as Associate Director of Career Services, and before that, at St. Joseph College (now University) in West Hartford as their first Director of Career Counseling.  She is a UConn alum who spent her first year at the Waterbury campus, and has a B.S in Educational Psychology and an M.S. in Counseling at the University of Hartford. Susan lives in Woodbury with her husband, has adult children and one grandchild.  She teaches yoga, sings in an a cappella group, and loves table tennis: She was UConn’s runner-up in the women’s undergrad finals.
