CIRI is seeking students, recent graduates, and young professionals who are looking for opportunities to develop their professional and intercultural skills by gaining work experience in a non-profit organization. Interns work for a period of three months, during which time they will complete training, participate in team building, and establish relationships with clients utilizing translation and interpretation services.

Who you are:
Preferred –
- You have some teaching experience and training in either a formal or non-formal setting as a teacher, summer camp counselor, coach, volunteer / intern, tutor, etc.
- You have Spanish, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, Creole or Ukrainian language skills
- You are pursuing or received undergraduate or graduate studies in education, social work, international/community development, communications, or related fields
- You have a love for learning and teaching. You will have both the empathy to understand the challenges your students face and the dedication to create a structured and safe learning environment.
- You have experience working in linguistically and culturally diverse settings.
- You have strong oral and written communication skills.
- You have maturity, flexibility, initiative, perseverance and can be resourceful when supporting clients and helping to build a network of contacts.
Required –
- You are a fluent English speaker
- You must have a valid driver’s license and access to your own transportation or a bus pass for Bridgeport or New Haven
- You must be available a minimum of 15 hours per week
- You must have intermediate tech skills to be able to complete tasks and support clients with digital learning
What you will do:
- You will facilitate daily non-formal education classes for children, women, and/or men.
- You will focus most of your time on supporting the Refugee Support Group Coordinator in facilitating the experientially-based support groups that model holistic, communal learning.
- Depending on your experience, skills, and interests, you may also contribute in areas like media & communications, professional development, community outreach and research.
- You may work with other teams, including Reception & Placement, depending on CIRI’s needs and your skills, passion and experience!
- You will receive support from a remote translator (as needed) who will assist you in communicating with your volunteer team and students. You will contribute to weekly tracking and attendance reports.
- You may write blog and social media posts during your internship for print materials and social media platforms.
