Credit, Compensation & Hours:

Description of Internship Site:

UConn Global Affairs provides university-wide leadership to build and sustain global education at the University of Connecticut. We service international students and scholars; nurture strategic global partnerships; create and manage student, faculty, and staff mobility programs; promote collaborative international research; develop curricula to build global competency; and deliver educational and professional services that support sustainable economic and social development. Departments in the Office of Global Affairs include Education Abroad, International Student & Scholar Services, the Global Training & Development Institute, Global Partnerships & Outreach, UConn American English Language Institute, Human Rights Institute and Dodd Impact.

Description of Internship Position:

 The Office of Global Affairs seeks a Graphic Design/Multimedia Intern to assist staff with marketing and promotion projects including flyers, posters, brochures, logos, and content for websites and newsletters. The student will work closely with content relating to Education Abroad, International Student & Scholar Services, the Global Training & Development Institute, UCAELI, Global Partnerships & Outreach, and other Global Affairs departments and initiatives. The student may be required to: 

  • Assist in the creation and design of materials for use in journals, newsletters, brochures, leaflets, posters, advertising, web visuals, and other publications 
  • Utilize photographs, illustrations, and multiple overlays to create coherent imagery and messaging across page layouts, logos, and other publications 
  • Research and review marketing trends 
  • Recommend solutions to staff regrading design problems
  • Work with faculty and students on graphic design and illustration questions
  • Assist in training other student employees
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as required 
Additional Important Details:

Currently a remote position for Summer 2021 with the potential to continue for the Academic Year 2021-22.

Requirements/Eligibility:

  • Previous graphics and illustration experience in a similar position
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines • Ability to complete tasks with minimum supervision
  • Communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a project-driven, team environment
    Good working knowledge of page layout and related computer-based design applications (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Majors in Communications, Digital Media & Design, Marketing, and Art are strongly preferred
  • Students that are available to work during the summer and winter breaks are strongly preferred
