We are seeking an energetic and motivated Business Development and Sales Intern to support our continued growth and help introduce our technology solutions to schools, colleges, government agencies, and other organizations across the country.
Position Overview
The Business Development and Sales Intern will work closely with company leadership and the sales team to identify prospective customers, conduct market research, support outreach campaigns, and help schedule product demonstrations.
This internship provides hands-on experience in business-to-business sales, software-as-a-service technology, education technology, lead generation, marketing, customer relationship management, and professional communication.
The ideal candidate is confident, organized, personable, comfortable speaking on the phone, and eager to learn how technology companies develop new business relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Research school districts, colleges, municipalities, and other prospective customers.
- Identify relevant decision-makers, including superintendents, school safety directors, student services administrators, technology leaders, and emergency management personnel.
- Conduct introductory telephone and email outreach to prospective customers.
- Help schedule product demonstrations and introductory sales meetings.
- Follow up with prospective customers after emails, calls, conferences, and marketing campaigns.
- Maintain accurate prospect and activity information in the company’s customer relationship management system.
- Assist with creating prospect lists by state, organization type, enrollment, job title, or other criteria.
- Research school-safety legislation, grant programs, purchasing cooperatives, and market opportunities.
- Support email marketing, social media, conference outreach, and lead-generation campaigns.
- Assist with preparing sales presentations, product information, proposals, and follow-up materials.
- Participate in sales meetings, product demonstrations, and strategy discussions.
- Help track outreach activity, responses, meetings, and sales opportunities.
- Communicate professionally with prospective and current customers.
- Provide weekly updates on completed activities, results, and next steps.
- Perform other business development and marketing projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Sales, Management, Public Relations, Education, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional and confident telephone manner.
- Comfortable speaking with school administrators, business professionals, and government personnel.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to conduct online research and accurately organize information.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar business applications.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow up consistently.
- Interest in sales, marketing, technology, education, or public safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship, customer service, fundraising, marketing, or sales experience.
- Experience with telephone outreach, email campaigns, or appointment setting.
- Familiarity with LinkedIn, customer relationship management software, or lead-generation tools.
- Experience working with schools, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, or technology companies.
- Interest in education technology, school safety, emergency communications, or software-as-a-service products.
