The Academic Success Manager is primarily responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive year-round educational program that meets the varying academic needs of our members and can serve as a fluid and flexible program, providing enriching and evidence-based learning opportunities for Club members regardless of how often or little they come to the Club.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Compile resources, information, and data, to address current and future trends impacting the educational needs of youth.
  • Conduct BGCA POWER Hour program: structured time each day for members to receive homework assistance and additional support to meet their educational needs.
  • Collect report cards as well as any and all anecdotal and portfolio data for all members on whom we have consent and track required data for grant and program purposes. Analyze all data and develop solutions/opportunities to address the positive and negative trends found through the data.
  • Develop and implement opportunities that provide additional support for members who have average or below average grades as well as those members who are high achiever’s and need to be challenged.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with school officials and maintain frequent communication with these individuals about concerns and/or achievements regarding our Club members.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with community organizations, agencies, and resources in or around the community that can support our Education program.
  • While school is in session, visit and provide support for our Club members when needed to assist them in achieving their academic goals.
  • Plan and conduct events that further promote academic enrichment and recognition such as field trips, collaborations with other organizations, etc.
  • Develop opportunities to involve Club parents/guardians in the Education program and educational needs of their children.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers for the Education program.
  • Create and implement an 8-week summer educational program such as the BGCA Summer Brain Gain program.
  • Operate all programs within the policies, procedures and operational hours established by BGCH.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Leadership

  • In collaboration with the Club Director establish and maintain relationships with schools, parents and other agencies to support the academic process for our members.
  • Provide coaching and training to department staff ensuring quality program, succession planning and positive relationships and camaraderie.

Strategic Planning

  • Contribute to operational strategic planning, providing perspective on educational programming and employee development needs to support strategic directions.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve the educational programs and systems within BGCH to ensure they meet Club member needs and motivate effective performance of staff.
  • Develop recommendations for implementation and modification of educational procedures and programs.

Resource Management

  • Control expenditures against budget.
  • Manage administrative and operational systems.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure a productive work environment that encourages positive, effective working relationships and open communications, and is respectful of the gender and cultural diversity of Club staff, volunteers and members. Take prompt, appropriate action to respond to conflicts between staff members.
  • Support the recruitment and selection of staff with the qualifications necessary for successful performance in the education department
  • Support staff career development, identifying opportunities for training and skill building within budget limits.

Partnership Development

  • Develop collaborative partnerships with other Clubs, consultants and vendors, as well as youth serving, professional and/or nonprofit organizations, to maintain professional credibility within the community.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Develop and maintain public relations to promote awareness of the Club and stimulate interest Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford.

Relationships

  • Internal: Maintain close contact with the Club Director as well as colleagues, Club members, to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions, instruct, and advise/counsel.
  • External: Maintain contact with other Clubs, vendors, consultants, organizations, government agencies and others to achieve objectives, manage costs, share information and resolve problems.
