Research Internship Program
Bradley, Foster & Sargent has sponsored an internship program since 2000. Our internship program is a form of independent study, which offers a student the opportunity to augment classroom learning by working in a business organization. Since its inception, over 163 students have participated in our program.
We seek to attract students who have a strong and demonstrable interest in the financial management field and, more specifically, investment management. Most interns will have previously taken relevant courses, have relevant work experience and/or have personal experience in this field.
Interns are given the opportunity to:
- Engage in research and other information gathering activities.
- Prepare and present their research findings to the firm’s investment professionals.
- Attend research meetings, investment committee meetings, and other relevant meetings such as analyst conference calls.
- Perform various research/trading support tasks.
- Obtain an understanding of the work environment, its participants and its customs to most importantly include networking within the firm.
In addition, interns are given suggested readings that are intended to help them understand the fundamentals of the active and passive approaches to equity management.
Interns in our spring and fall programs work 10-12 hours per week with a minimum of 100 hours per semester. Interns in our summer program work approximately 35 hours per week. The entirety of their time will be spent on research and research/trading support assignments. Each intern will be required to research and analyze a company/stock; at the conclusion of the internship, he/she will present their findings, conclusions and recommendations to the firm.
Each intern will work with a Portfolio Manager and/or the Director of Research on their company analysis. There will be opportunities to work with other investment professionals, including research analysts, in both research and research support activities.
