Position Summary
The EHS Intern supports the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company’s Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems in alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001. The role provides hands-on exposure to EHS programs across manufacturing, R&D/laboratory, and office environments, with a focus on hazard identification, risk assessment, environmental aspects, compliance obligations, and performance monitoring.
Internship Intent/Exposure:
ISO Management System Support (45001 & 14001)
- Assist in maintaining EHS documentation, procedures, and records in accordance with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 requirements
- Support internal audits, gap assessments, and corrective action tracking
- Assist with document control and record retention practices
- Participate in management system reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Manufacturing Environment
- Support shop-floor safety inspections and hazard identification (machine guarding, ergonomics, LOTO, chemical handling)
- Assist with Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments
- Support incident and near-miss investigations using root cause analysis methods
- Assist with tracking safety performance indicators (TRIR, near misses, corrective actions)
ISO Alignment:
- ISO 45001: Hazard identification, risk assessment, operational controls
- ISO 14001: Waste management, emissions, environmental aspect controls
R&D / Laboratory Environment
- Assist with laboratory safety inspections (chemical hygiene, biosafety, compressed gases)
- Support chemical inventory management and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) maintenance
- Assist with identifying environmental aspects and impacts related to R&D activities
- Support spill prevention, emergency preparedness, and response planning
ISO Alignment:
- ISO 45001: Control of hazardous substances, emergency preparedness
- ISO 14001: Aspect/impact identification, pollution prevention
Office Environment
- Support office safety programs (ergonomics, emergency response, indoor air quality)
- Assist with contractor safety documentation and visitor safety requirements
- Support environmental initiatives such as recycling, waste reduction, and energy conservation
ISO Alignment:
- ISO 45001: Worker participation, safe work environment
- ISO 14001: Resource efficiency and waste reduction
Training & Employee Engagement
- Assist with EHS training development, tracking, and records management
- Support new employee EHS orientations
- Assist with toolbox talks, safety communications, and awareness campaigns
- Promote employee participation in EHS initiatives in line with ISO requirements
Environmental & Sustainability Support
- Assist with tracking environmental metrics (waste, water, energy, chemical usage)
- Support compliance documentation for environmental permits and requirements
- Assist with pollution prevention and sustainability projects
Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain EHS databases and performance dashboards
- Assist with corrective and preventive action (CAPA) tracking
- Support trend analysis and reporting for leadership review
- Participate in continuous improvement and risk-based thinking initiatives
Learning Outcomes (ISO-Focused)
By the end of the internship, the EHS Intern will gain experience in:
- Implementing and maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
- Conducting risk assessments and environmental aspect evaluations
- Supporting audits, corrective actions, and performance monitoring
Qualifications and Experience:
Education: BS in EH&S/ Occupational Safety/ Environmental Science. Relevant coursework: occupational safety & health, industrial hygiene, environmental regulations (RCRA, EPA OSHA), Hazardous Materials Management, Risk Assessment & Accident Investigation
Experience:
No professional experience required. Prior internship, laboratory work, or hands‑on technical coursework is preferred.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to move between manufacturing floors, laboratories, and office spaces
- Ability to wear required PPE (lab coat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toe footwear, etc.)
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
