The Nature Connection’s mission is to improve the wellbeing of individuals and communities through the therapeutic use of nature. We travel throughout Middlesex County and the Greater Boston area to deliver nature-based programming to people with limited access to the outdoors: youth in therapeutic schools and/or group homes, people with disabilities, and elders in memory care unites with dementia/Alzheimer’s. Through regular programs combining seasonal natural materials, live animals, and hands-on activities, we connect individuals with nature’s capacity to heal, teach, and create joy.
Position Summary:
The Nature Connection seeks a program delivery intern who will assist in program delivery, along with creation of informative program materials. The right candidate will have an interest in nature/animal/eco/alternative therapies, an interest and/or experience working with people from diverse backgrounds, and/or an interest in nature education (formal or informal).
This is an internship that requires traveling throughout Middlesex County and the Greater Boston Area.
During the semester you’ll be expected to submit weekly program notes (Process Journal) of your observations and reflections of programs, comment on program plans/outlines, and by the end of the semester plan and lead your own program with the help NC staff.
The program intern will:
- Assist Program Coordinators in planning and preparing for programs (gathering information, supplies, creating program materials).
- Interact and engage with program participants though nature alongside NC Program Coordinators and volunteers.
- Learn and demonstrate knowledge of Nature Connection methodology and communication style.
Requirements & Essential Skills:
- Dependability, Communication Skills, Professionalism, Adaptability
- CORI/SORI background check
- Transportation to The Nature Connection office is required (we are less than 1/2 mile from the Concord commuter rail stop on the Fitchburg line)
- Reliable vehicle is not required, but is very helpful.
- Available for full season even if hour requirement is met early (end date is flexible depending on start of school)
Schedule/Availability:
Must be available for a minimum of 8 hours per week on, or split between: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and/or Fridays. Mondays are not available.

Compensation
Stipend of $500 per semester for 15 hours/week or $250 per semester for 8 hours/week.
