At NECC, you will combine your teaching background with practical training to change the lives of individuals with autism. In this role, you will work collaboratively to teach children, adolescents, and young adults in the areas of academics, socialization, self-control, activities of daily living, communication, and job skills.

You will also have the opportunity to assist with educational program design, Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) development, and have regular communication with parents and guardians.

Autism Teacher Responsibilities

  • Instruct students in general curriculum areas, as well as life and social skills
  • Collaborate with specialists, other teachers, and aides
  • Design and implement steps of students’ IEPs
  • Teach as part of a team of professionals in a year-round day program to maximize students’ skills and independence
  • Implement educational programs and behavior management guidelines in 1:1 and small group formats
  • Utilize behavior analytic teaching procedures across classroom and community settings
  • Diligent implementation of all medical, safety, and emergency procedures.

Autism Teacher Qualifications

  • You must be 18 years of age
  • Be able to provide proof of a High School Diploma or GED
  • Strongly Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or in process of obtaining one
  • Preferred: experience in education, special education, or psychology
  • Be able to provide a valid driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle
  • Be able to communicate clearly and professionally, both written and verbally, with parents/guardians and colleagues
  • You must be physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared for a challenging work experience.
