The State of Connecticut Judicial Branch Tolland Judicial District is seeking Temporary Paralegals to assist staff with courtroom activities in the Superior Court. Qualified candidates interested in potential employment, who may have previously applied but are not currently employed, must submit an updated resume.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a paralegal studies program, which earns the candidate a Paralegal Certificate or an Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Paralegal Studies. Other acceptable qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree or other law-related experience.

Duties: These positions encompass a wide variety of duties including courtroom clerk, jury, case flow, scheduling pre-trials, calendars, and other related duties as assigned in the Civil/Family Divisions and Criminal Part A Division.

Salary: $17.85 an hour. Temporary Paralegal is a full-time position of up to 70 hours in a two week pay period. Eligibility for group health insurance (medical and dental) is attained after having worked more than 60 days on a half time schedule during 4 bi-weekly periods. If elected within 30 days of hire, group term life insurance begins after six months of employment.

Classifications: Temporary Paralegals are appointed for a 12 month period with the option of requesting reappointments for a second and then a third 12 month period.

Leaves of Absence: Temporary paralegals may request a leave of absence without pay for the purpose of preparing for the bar examination or for any other appropriate purpose. The approval of such leave will not operate to change the expiration date of a twelve month term of employment.
