Steel Bridge Design Club is to supplement the education of (engineering) students with a comprehensive, student-driven, hands-on experience through design, fabrication, erection, and testing of the structure. The students design, fabricate, and weld the bridge together. Fabrication consists of cutting metal to size and welding the pieces to form bridge members. The completed bridge is 25’ long. In the spring, students attend and compete in a regional competition. The competition is judged on the following: construction speed, lightness, stiffness, construction economy, and structural efficiency. In recent years, UCONN Steel Bridge Club has competed and ranked in the top 3 schools in the New England region. We are proud of our achievements of competing on the national level year after year.
