Your professional materials are the supporting documents for anything to which you apply. Perhaps you are applying for a job or internship, another graduate program, a fellowship, research funding, etc. Each of these opportunities will require that you customize and provide a combination of your professional materials.

Your professional materials can include:

  • Résumé and/or CV
  • Cover Letter
  • Writing Sample
  • Personal Statement – if applying to another graduate degree program

For jobs in academia you will also likely need:

  • Research Statement or Research Plan
  • Diversity Statement
  • Teaching Statement
  • Sample Syllabus

It is recommended that during your graduate program you create drafts of the materials that you might need, enabling you to easily customize them for opportunities during graduate school and beyond.
