Public Health Policy and Management Experience

The Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis, and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM) is offering a free experience, located on the Center of Career Developments website in the Healthcare and Wellness Career Community.

ASHM is the leading organization for sexual health in New Zealand and Australia, while also working on an international level. The work aims to eliminate HIV, viral hepatitis, and other STIs. his is accomplished by partnering and having continuous collaboration with members of their professional community.

This Virtual experience will provide students with the chance to build necessary skills and knowledge to further their understanding of the public health field. ASHM’s program is self-paced, and task based, with the difficulty increasing as you move through the modules. ASHM supports the health care work force through training, education, conferences, resources, and clinical guidelines. You will be able to get practical experience in this program that reflect ASHM’s goals above.

The task you will be responsible for include:

  • Develop an outline for a policy and advocacy strategy- This will center around HIV and sexual as a mentoring project and develop advocacy skills. 
  • Conduct stakeholder mapping for guidelines development- This will support the development of clinical guidelines and develop your critical thinking skills.
  • Write and Abstract for a viral hepatitis conference- You will have to use data tools and be able to summarize relevant and important information to educate.  
  • Develop an outline for a policy advocacy strategy- This will aid to build up healthcare workers internationally and build upon your research, analytical, and strategic planning skills

 At the end of the 5–6-hour program, you will receive a certification that can be showcased on your LinkedIn, resume, or CV. Participants will also benefit from gaining real-world experience and exploring the healthcare and public health career path.
