Ways to Get Involved on Campus: Native and Indigenous Organizations and Programs

Are you a Native and/or Indigenous student looking for a way to be involved at UConn? The university has a few different student and professional organizations for you to join!

Native American and Indigenous Students Association (NAISA).

NAISA’s goal is to “create representation for Native and Indigenous students on campus.” Some examples of events they have held in the past are: Discuss Native Representation in Media, Indigenous Fashion: A Conversation with Native Designers and Creatives, and Paint Night and Res Dogs Marathon. During the Fall 2022 semester, meetings are held on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pm in the Student Union Room 103.

Follow NAISA on Instagram @ uconn_naisa and to get involved or collaborate email NAISA’s President, Samantha Gove at Samantha.Gove@uconn.edu

Native American Cultural Programs (NACP)

The NACP community aims to share cultures, traditions, and histories with each other and hosts events around Indigenous People’s Week, Native and Indigenous People’s Month as well as the UConn Annual Rising Sun Powwow.

This year for Indigenous People’s Week, they held events such as Fostering Indigenous Community Through Advocacy at a Land Grant Institution, a Film Screening of Truth Teller with a Live Q&A and The History of Indigenous Community at UConn: Where We Have Been and Where We Are Going.
