How to Use Interstride to Support Your Students

As a Career Champion, you are a part of a community that is actively assisting our diverse student body in determining and reaching their vocational goals. We want to ensure that you have the right resources to support the needs of our students.

International students, in particular, encounter unique challenges in their career process. Therefore, our Center and the International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) have partnered with Interstride to provide an all-in-one platform designed for international student success. While it is primarily a student-facing portal, having knowledge about the platform will ensure you can guide students you are working with in the right direction.

The Interstride portal offers career support to students among the following lines:

Visa and Immigration Process Support

Interstride offers webinars, self-paced courses, resources such as websites, blogs and articles and connections to student services that provide information about applying and obtaining visas. This is a great resource to direct students to who are looking for guidance on immigration regulations and procedures.

Employment Opportunities

Interstride’s job board features opportunities from companies that hire international students. Students can use the “Companies” filter to search for the most international-friendly employers that are responsible for the majority of H-1B visas or filter to find companies exempt from the H-1B visa process.

Networking

When studying abroad in a foreign country, students experience obstacles regarding communication and cultural differences which extend to the development of a professional network. Through Interstride’s networking hub, students can connect with international peers and alumni who are also Huskies to build connections, seek advice, and find community.

Advice and Guidance

In addition to resources regarding visas and immigration, students can find information regarding cultural acclimation, student life and career readiness topics such as developing a LinkedIn profile and the job search process.

You can set up your own free account in Interstride by clicking on the following link and using your NETID and password to register: https://career.uconn.edu/resources/interstride/view/
