The Den For Grieving Kids provides a safe, caring place for children, teens and families to explore their feelings about the loss of a parent, sibling or other family member and begin the journey toward healing. Children and their families participate in free evening groups led by professionals and trained volunteer facilitators. The Den also offers support groups at area elementary, middle and high schools (daytime). The Den’s focus is on supporting children and families.
The Role:
Family Centers is currently seeking a Part Time associate with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Mental Health, or a related field to provide both clinical and operational support to the Den for Grieving Kids evening and school-based programs. Responsibilities include:
• Co-facilitate school and evening Den grief and bereavement groups (following training).
• Conduct intakes for new families and serve as a family liaison for Den activities and events.
• Help with Den programming curriculum, including preparing activities and acquiring materials/supplies.
• Participate in facilitator discussions before/after Den evening sessions (2 per month).
• Provide initial screening/explanation to prospective volunteers
• Oversee the scheduling and coordination of school-based grief and bereavement groups
• Participate in public and educational presentations on the bereavement, grief and loss, mental health and the Den
• Coordinate and support facilitator trainings (monthly)
• Track participant attendance, registers new clients, maintains data for grants and donors
• Collaborate with Den Program Coordinator, Den Master Level Intern(s), and Director of Grief & Trauma Services
• Participate in weekly staff meetings, agency in-services, program meetings, etc.
Performance Requirements:
• Ability to adhere to Family Centers’ seven Standards of Excellence.
• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and written.
• Strong organization skills
• Ability to navigate (or learn) Microsoft office/Outlook, Google suite and agency’s Electronic Medical Record
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Ability to seek support of supervisor to process feelings and emotions and seek self-care as needed
• Flexibility with scheduling, days/evenings for Evening Den and occasional evening trainings
• Ability to travel to several sites throughout lower Fairfield County
• Ability to represent the program and agency in venues as requested (i.e. presentation at a local High School, Volunteer Fair, etc.)
• Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with facilitators, colleagues and master level interns.
• Ability to represent the program and agency in venues as requested.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, mental health or related field
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
