Landmark Preschool, Westport is looking for a part time music teacher to join our team. In this role you will create a flexible educational program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with students, motivating students to develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for the enjoyment of music. You should balance this with understanding of rhythm, tone and other music-related skills, in accordance with each student’s ability to foster the learning and development of music. You will need to establish positive relationships with parents and other faculty and staff members.
Job Responsibilities (includes but limited to):
- Teach students at an age-appropriate level consistent with development expectations and approved by Landmark Preschool
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and clearly communicate objectives to students and teachers
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction
- Prepare quarterly newsletters for families of students reviewing curriculum covered
- Prepare clear written lesson plans that can be reviewed by the Director and used by substitutes as needed
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
- Create a warm and inviting classroom environment and utilize the resources available
- Assist teachers with preparing and presenting student musical performances
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
- Enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students
- Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment, reporting unsafe conditions to the supervisor promptly
- Assist in emergency preparedness and evacuation procedures and drills
- Confer with parents and administrators in order to resolve a student’s behavioral and/or academic problem
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required
- Observe and evaluate students’ academic progress and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
- Communicate with parents, as needed, to discuss students’ progress and interpret the school program
- Participate in school events outside of the classroom such as faculty meetings and professional development days
Required Skills and Education:
- Demonstrate a variety of instruction strategies to teach the students the concepts and enjoyment of music
- Be comfortable with technology and be able to use computers, SmartBoard, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement lessons
- Possess an ability to collaborate with others in a positive and productive manner
- Bachelor’s degree in music or related field
- Teaching certification desired
- At least 2 years of classroom teaching experience

- Part-Time/ Approximately 10-12 hours per week
- $30-40/hour based on experience
