The Harmony Project, a department of the YWCA Greenwich, delivers a full spectrum of services for those impacted by domestic and sexual violence. All services are free and confidential. We are a state designated domestic violence service provider and member of the CT Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV).
We are seeking a dynamic individual with a commitment to working towards equality and social justice, who is experienced providing educational presentations to various community providers and delivering community education programs to youth.
Position: Outreach, Engagement and Training Coordinator
Function: The Outreach, Engagement, and Training Coordinator is an integral member of the Community Education team whose primary responsibility is developing and implementing community outreach, education, prevention, and training around intimate partner and sexual violence. This position is to be carried out while raising awareness about intimate partner and sexual violence and educating the public to promote an atmosphere of intolerance of intimate partner and sexual violence in the town of Greenwich. As needed, the Outreach, Engagement and Training Coordinator will also support YWCA Harmony Project by providing direct services to victims of intimate partner and sexual violence through the 24-hour hotline and crisis intervention.
Responsibilities:
1. Community Outreach
- Create general awareness around the issues of intimate partner and sexual violence and increase accessibility and utilization of Harmony Project services within the Greenwich community through the development and distribution of educational, informational and promotional materials
- As needed, facilitate Harmony Project prevention education programming
- Increase awareness and access to services for all populations, mindful of additional barriers for underserved sectors of the Greenwich community.
- Deliver a systematic approach to community education by working with local community cohorts, partners, providers, and organizations
- Continually update materials and resources on various topics within intimate partner and sexual violence
- Maintain and develop curriculum for community presentations and professional trainings
- Document all efforts, including outreach, presentations, trainings, and radio appearances
- Develop and implement evaluation tools for all presentations and trainings
- Be a liaison and referral source between Harmony Project and the Greenwich community
- Together with the Community Education Team: develop, implement, and evaluate annual public awareness plan including activities, public awareness materials and events including art show and Candlelight Vigil
- Represent YWCA Harmony Project and YWCA Greenwich at community, regional and state-wide events, including monthly meetings of the Greenwich Health Initiative Partnership (GCHIP) and Health Provider Advocacy Project meetings through the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV)
2. Training
- Facilitate biannual CT State Mandated Domestic Violence Certification Training for new Advocates, Employees and Volunteers
- Create and deliver setting specific professional trainings such as medical and mental health providers, attorneys, law enforcement, school personnel etc.
3. Advocacy
- Respond to agency’s 24/hr hotline and document every interaction with clients according to agency policy
- See clients “in person”, who are in crisis or make sure they have an appointment with a counselor
- Assess clients for shelter admission, consult with other staff with assessments
- Provide transportation for clients to and/or from shelter as needed
- Advocate with outside systems regarding client’s needs
- Provide clients with information and referral to resources outside the domestic violence program
- Other services as deemed necessary
4. Administration
- Maintain client files and make sure statistical information on services are complete
- Attend staff meetings delivering updates on Community Education programs and events as needed
- Maintain complete monthly and quarterly reports according to CCADV Standards contract
- Comply with other responsibilities as specifically required under the CCADV Community Educator Sub- Contract
- Attend CCADV Community Education meetings and/or trainings
5. Other Duties
- Maintain in compliance with Connecticut statutes: C.G.S.52-146 including but not limited to:
Privilege: C.G.S. 52-146K; Confidential Communication: C.G.S. 52-146(B) & C.G.S.52-146(F), C.G.S.52-146k(e); and Confidential Record Keeping: C.G.S.52-146 (i)
- Take initiative and/or independent action to ensure work responsibilities are carried out fully and completely
- Adapt to changing job priorities in Harmony Project’s needs. Remain open to new ideas and develop new skills as needed
- Demonstrate supportive behaviors and accept personal accountability toward Harmony Project’s objectives and policies; Supportive of Harmony Project’s management and YWCA Greenwich Board of Directors
- Generate innovative solutions by drawing upon diverse sources (individuals, disciplines, bodies of knowledge) for ideas and inspiration
- Obtain information and identify key issues and relationships relevant to long-range strategic planning for prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence
- Make referrals to appropriate Harmony Project staff or other resources in order that requests from special initiatives for technical assistance and/or training are appropriately and adequately met
- Participate in YWCA & Harmony Project staff events /programs including but not limited to: October Awareness, Certification Training and Staff Development Days
- Perform all job responsibilities in accordance with CCADV standards and YWCA and Harmony Project policies and procedures
- Travel as required
Qualifications
- MSW degree preferred, or B.A. degree in social service or related field
- Complete domestic violence certification and maintain certification receiving not less than 6 hours of in-service training annually in issues related to working with victims of domestic violence and advocate job enhancement skills. Complete in-service trainings on sexual violence and the provision of sexual violence services. Maintain working knowledge of both through continuing education.
- Required training around sexual violence
- Maintain certification with no less than six (6) hours of in-services annually, in issues related to intimate partner violence and advocate job enhancement skills
- Experience and expertise in planning and program development
- Strong public speaking and presentational skills
- Expertise in collaboration with diverse groups and individuals
- Strong organizational, communication, training and writing skills
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, CCADV’s mission, as well as, understanding of issues related to intimate partner and sexual violence
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as well as an understanding of these issues as they intersect with intimate partner and sexual violence
- Ability to work as an individual as well as a team member
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

- Ability to be flexible and juggle multiple demands
- Reliable transportation and working telephone required.
Supervision: The supervisor will oversee the work of the Outreach, Engagement and Training Coordinator; conduct verbal and written evaluations of the Outreach, Engagement and Training Coordinator as needed; and conduct written evaluations of the Outreach, Engagement and Training Coordinator yearly within a month of their anniversary date. Additional assistance will be provided to the Outreach, Engagement and Training Coordinator at regular meetings facilitated by YWCA, CCADV and through training programs and materials.
