Student Organizations

HOLDUP! is a student-run leadership organization committed to helping Connecticut high-school students discover their own leadership potentials through engaging and educational and engaging workshop presentations. With 30 active members from varying majors, we are an organization of passionate and committed individuals who share a common interest in strengthening our leadership skills by creating positive change in the Connecticut community. HOLDUP! members gain valuable experience working together to develop and present leadership-related workshop material and mentor high school students while preparing them for a life full of leadership beyond high school.

  • Mission: To mentor high school students in the CT area in leadership, development, understanding and pride, while developing our own skills and values as leaders.
  • Vision: We inspire high school students to develop and believe in themselves as leaders- now and in the future.

What do we do?

Three Main Components:

  • The first component of HOLDUP that we all are committed to is attending a weekly hour-long general member meeting facilitated by our co-chairs.
  • The second component of HOLDUP is choosing a committee. We all belong to one of our 4 committees, and take part in weekly meetings with them as well.
  • The last component, and the most enjoyed component by many, is going to area high schools and facilitating workshops to students once a week.

Committees:

  • Content
    • Responsible for creating, editing, and revising current workshop material
  • Member
    • Responsible for scheduling, planning, and organizing events for HOLDUP members
    • Examples include: game nights, ropes courses, movie nights, etc.
  • Professional Development
    • Responsible for helping HOLDUP members develop themselves as professionals and leaders for their future endeavors
  • Public Relations and Marketing
    • Responsible for advertising, promoting our organization to UConn students and high schools in the area
    •  We organize all fundraising efforts for charities that align with HOLDUP’s mission
