Becoming Career Ready through Courses – Career & Self Development

Career & Self Development

“I have enhanced my Career and Self-Development competency through learning about resume building and job searching in courses like FYE; through on-campus jobs where I learned more about what I have for strengths and weaknesses; and through an internship with the Center for Career Development where I have thus far learned more on how to navigate career opportunities. This is all important to me because it helps me in focusing my career path and learning about the best ways to secure a job.” – Taylor F.”

I enhanced my career and self-development competency in my SYE class with Beth. In Beth’s class, we talked about career readiness by completing a questionnaire called “Focus2 Am I Career Ready”. This was enlightening and made me really think about what career I would like to go into, or if my major and what I planned on going into is really right for me. Talking through this with my classmates was helpful. The use of technology and communication has been crucial.” – Ciara H.

“When I took a UNIV Class, “Making Major Decisions” with Micah Heumann, I learned a lot about myself personality wise, in terms of what careers would suit me best and what type of learner/professional that I was. We took many personality quizzes and did learning activities that taught me about myself and helped me realize that a Psychology major is where I would thrive, and a career working with people would be for me.” – Caroline F.
