What Can You Do With A Degree In Animal Science?

Are you an animal science major looking to immerse yourself in a career field outside of veterinary medicine or simply looking for careers that do not require graduate school? Look to the agricultural industry as it is one of the largest in the world and jobs in this field are in high demand! Whether you have a passion for working with animals, look to improve their quality of life, or aspire to work behind the scenes on production and management, there is a job for everyone regardless of skill set. Here are some career paths that are available to individuals with a bachelor’s degree in animal science:

Careers working with animals and conservation

Zoologist: duties may include conducting research and studying animals in habitats, ensuring the welfare of animals, and educating the public on conservation and animal welfare.

Wildlife Biologist: primary duties include conducting research studies and data analysis, studying ecosystems, and relocating animals for conservation purposes

Marine Rescue Officer: you will assist in missions to rescue and rehabilitate sick or impaired marine animals, transport them to facilities, and aid in the process of returning them to the ocean.

K9 Unit Trainer: utilizing your knowledge of animal behavior you will train dogs in a skill set needed for K9 operations, whether it is drug and contraband detection or search and rescue tracking. 

Careers working in production and management

Production Supervisor: supervise and coordinate activities of workers engaged in the well-being of livestock and examine livestock to determine health and control disease and injury when necessary.

Agricultural/Farm Manager: manage farm operations, monitor staff and production, prepare budgets and reports, and ensure the safety of employees as well as animals/livestock

USDA Consumer Safety Inspector: work closely with one or more privately owned meat, poultry, and egg manufacturers, ensuring establishments comply with USDA and state regulations.
