Her journey is a testament to the power of ambition, adaptability, and community support and her story offers valuable insight for students and young professionals carving out their own unique paths.

Background and Journey

Raised on the East Coast, Rashana earned her degree in Business Data Analytics from the University of Connecticut, where she made an early mark through her incredible drive completing nine internships across a variety of industries while still an undergraduate. These hands-on experiences helped her build a foundation of real-world skills and a clear sense of direction in a competitive professional landscape.

With over four years of experience at companies including Discovery, NBCUniversal, Tesla, and Amazon Robotics, Rashana honed her skills in program management, decision-making, and strategic execution. After graduation, she joined Amazon as a Program Manager II, where she brought a consumer-centric mindset and passion for innovation to one of the world’s leading tech organizations.

Career and Academic Development

Even while making strides in the tech industry, Rashana remained committed to giving back. She returned to UConn Stamford as a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor, teaching a First Year Experience (FYE) course to over 60 freshman students. Her passion for education runs deep. She has spent three years teaching a range of learners, from elementary school students to college undergraduates.

Her commitment to education and desire to create meaningful impact through technology led her to pursue a master’s degree in Learning Design and Technology at Harvard University. There, she is exploring how innovation in digital tools can enhance educational access, engagement, and equity.

“I’m passionate about using technology to improve learning outcomes and make education more effective and inclusive,” Rashana shared. Through this next step in her academic journey, she hopes to continue driving change at the intersection of technology and learning.

Advice for Students

Reflecting on her own experiences, Rashana emphasizes the importance of leaning on others. “Your career is not a solo sport,” she says. Whether in the classroom or the workplace, the support of mentors, faculty, and advisors has been instrumental in her growth.

She encourages students to actively seek out mentorship, ask questions, and not be afraid to build relationships. “It’s easy to think that success is all about working hard alone but collaboration and community are just as essential,” she added.

For Rashana, applying to graduate school was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences in her academic journey. It was her support system those who reviewed her applications, offered encouragement, and guided her decisions that helped her move forward with clarity and confidence.

Final Thoughts

From corporate boardrooms to classrooms, Rashana Weerasinghe continues to lead with purpose. Her journey is a reminder that the most powerful career paths often don’t follow a straight line but with curiosity, courage, and community, they can lead to meaningful impact.

She encourages all students to embrace exploration, take initiative, and above all, stay open to learning. “There’s no one right path,” Rashana said. “But if you stay aligned with your values and surround yourself with the right people, you’ll find your way.”
