Karus Sabio ’23 is a senior majoring in Political Science on the UConn Stamford campus. The month of November is Native American Heritage Month! To celebrate, today we are highlighting U.S. Representative Sharice Davids. Representative Davids is the first Native American woman elected to represent Kansas’s 3rd congressional district, the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to the U.S. Congress, and one of the two first Native American women to be elected to Congress, winning the 2018 Congressional elections in Kansas and being inaugurated in January 2019.

The month of November is Native American Heritage Month! To celebrate, today we are highlighting poet, activist, musician, and teacher Joy Harjo. Joy Harjo is the first Native American to be named the U.S. Poet Laureate and has earned many awards for her poetry and music.

Latinx Heritage Month lasts from September 15 to October 15, and today we are highlighting Bianca Kea, an Afro-Latina entrepreneur and business owner who founded the apparel company, Yo Soy Afro Latina.

Meet Sara Gallo, a First Gen graduate who received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Human Development and Family Sciences this May. She shares her experiences with us about navigating her career path within the healthcare field.

LaChana Flanders (she/her) M.S., CCC -SLP graduated UConn in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, and went on to receive a Master’s of Science degree from Pace University in Communication Sciences and Disorders in 2020. She is now the founder of Valiant Speech & Language Solutions.
