Students often feel pressured to have everything figured out as they step into college, but the journey of UConn class of 2016 alumna Lila was anything but straightforward. Fueled by her ambition to seek financial independence and guided by persistence and flexibility, she was able to transform uncertainty into success.  

Don Bell, an attorney and UConn CLAS ‘10 and UConn Law ‘13 graduate, currently works as Policy Counsel for the Project on Government Oversight. Bell’s transition from working on Capitol Hill to an educational setting grew naturally out of his admiration for his time at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.

For many students, choosing a career in healthcare begins with a desire to help others. For Dr. Marc Novak, dentistry became the perfect way to combine that goal with something else he enjoyed: working with his hands and building meaningful connections with patients. But as Novak’s career shows, entering the healthcare field is only the beginning; the real challenge comes in transitioning from student to professional.

Anson Lau is an alumnus of UConn Storrs who graduated with a degree in civil engineering. Since completing his studies at UConn, he has begun building his career in the construction industry and currently works as a Field Engineer at The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company. His journey from a UConn student to a professional in the field reflects the strong foundation that the university provides to its engineering graduates.
